NC Presidential run-off election over; vote counting started
Kathmandu / March 7: Nepali Congress Election Committee informed that counting of votes of the party’s presidential run-off started immediately after the election.
The second round election was held on Monday since 2: 45 pm after all three President hopeful candidates –Ramchandra Poudel, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Krishna Prasad Sitaula — failed to garner more than 50 per cent of the total votes-a threshold required to win the election as per the party’s statute.
One hour and forty-five minutes was added for the run-off to be originally concluded at 5 pm so as to relax time constraint on voters. On the election held Sunday, Sher Bahadur Deuba had garnered bigger number of vote (1,564) than his close contender Ramchandra Poudel’s 1,160.
Similarly, Situala had only secured 324 votes. The run-off election today was held between Deuba and Poudel.
Of total 3,161 voters in the 3th national convention, only 3,120 have cast their vote in the run-off, according to NC Central Election Committee member Gopal Krishna Ghimire.
The vote count of the run-off will be taking place at the Rastriya Sabhagriha dividing total ballots cast in five different places, shared the Election Committee member. RSS
