NRCS conducts NAPA workshop to mitigate disaster risk and Climate change resilience
Kathmandu / March 14: A workshop on Nepal National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) to climate change was held at the central office of the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) on Sunday to discuss the different aspects of the NAPA, disaster risk mitigation, climate change resilience, among others.
Likewise, discussions were held to further strengthen the mutual collaboration in the field of NAPA between the NRCS and other partners.
On the occasion, General Secretary of NRCS Devratna Dhakhwa expressed readiness for extending supports to the government in the field of shared indicators regarding the climate change.
During the programme, Susil Parera of International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) had a presentation on Paris Convention on Climate Change and global concepts of climate change.
Likewise, under-secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Population, Naresh Sharma, claimed that the activities run in regard to climate change in Nepal are exemplary at the international level too. He shared that nine separate sectoral activities are run in the country and that have helped in poverty reduction through capacity building for climate change resilience.
He also expected crucial supports from the NRCS in the NAPA process saying that the humanitarian organisation has a long experience on disaster risk mitigation.
Similarly, Director of Disaster Management Department of NRCS, Dharmaraj Pandey, shared information on community-based disaster migration programmes and the activities run for the climate change adaptation. RSS
