Newly elected NC President Deuba assumes office; nominates seven members
Kathmandu / March 16: Newly elected President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba assumed his office at the party’s central office on Wednesday.
After receiving certificates from the 13th general convention election committee amidst a programme held at the office, General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala and Treasurer Sitadevi Yadav also assumed their respective posts.
Addressing the function, NC President Deuba pledged to keep the party united and called for support from all sides to help address the demands raised by the Madhesh-based parties regarding the demarcation of federal units and also for implementation of the new constitution.
Outgoing acting President Ram Chandra Poudel, who lost to Deuba in the race for the post of the President, gave assurances to help the new leadership in facing the challenge of implementing the new constitution and maintaining the glorious history of the party.
General Secretary Dr Koirala emphaized on the need for the leadership to play a responsible role in keeping the party united while Treasurer Yadav described the 13th general convention as the convention of unity, and urged all to work accordingly. Yadav also urged the party Chair to take positive measures to resolve the problems in the Madhesh.
Meanwhile, after assuming the post, party Chair Deuba nominated seven members to the party’s central working committee.
Following a provision related to nomination in the party statute, Deuba nominated Ram Chandra Poudel, Krishna Prasad Sitoula, Arjun Narsingh KC, Narahari Acharya, Gagan Kumar Thapa, Chitralekha Yadav and Umakant Chaudhary as central members, according to a statement issued by the party’s Chief Secretary Rishikesh Tiwari.
