Govt. focused on economic development and prosperity: PM Oli
Kathmandu / March 28: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government has focused its attention in economic development and prosperity after promulgation of the new constitution.
Prime Minister said so while addressing an international seminar on ‘Nepal Vision 2030’ organised by the National Planning Commission with collaboration of Asian Development Bank here today.
Stating that the country achieved success in on some of the goals sets by the Millennium Development Goals, he said that support and collaboration of all was necessary for prosperity, while stressing on the need of maximum utilization of natural resources of the country.
The Prime Minister said, “The 20-year agriculture strategy has now under implementation and is expected to bring about a drastic change in the agriculture sector. An energy crisis action plan with a target of generating 10,000 MW electricity within 10 years has formulated for the welfare of the country.”
He said that the future of the country is bright as the government has been making efforts to create development-friendly environment and is following a long-term development strategy.
Stating that there was immense potential for investment in Nepal’s agro, tourism, hydropower and herbs sector, PM Oli said that environment conducive for investment has been created as the new constitution has guaranteed rights of all groups and communities.
He said that bilateral and multilateral partnership has been initiated after his recent visit to two neigbouring countries and it has paved the way for Nepal’s development.
The PM also described Nepal as a golden land for investment. Prime Minister Oli said that the government is working to expand a network of contacts with India and China it is important for development.
He further said that the government was ready to follow all required strategies to upgrade the country to a developing one within 2022 and expressed the determination to make the country economically rich within 2030.
Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Finance, Bishnu Prasad Poudel, expressed the view that the seminar organised with an objective of developing a long-term vision for the development of Nepal would added a new dimension in the 60-year history of planned development.
Stating that the country has moved ahead towards the path of economic development and prosperity after promulgation of new constitution, Finance Minister Poudel stressed the need of working with determining goals of inclusive economic development.
Likewise, Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dr Yubraj Khatiwada said that although the April 25 earthquake and five-month long unannounced border blockade caused significant damage to its economy, the country could be upgraded as developing country within 2022.
He said that a draft of the work plan would be formulated, which should be followed within 2030, saying future goals are to be determined on the basis of suggestion of national and international experts for the development and prosperity of Nepal.
Stating that the Asian Development Bank was ready to provide maximum support for the socio-economic development of Nepal, ADB Vice-President Wencai Zhang said that development of physical infrastructure should be forwarded in an effective manner. RSS
