Journalism will be made responsible and professional: Minister Rai
Dhangadhi / March 29: Minister for Information and Communications, Sherdhan Rai, has said that the government has been doing homework to make the journalism sector professional, responsible and sustainable.
At a programme organised by Kailali chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) on the occasion of the 61st establishment day here today, Minister Rai clarified that the Ministry has been making polices and plans related to media sector in order to make it responsible towards the nation.
He said, “The activities of the Press Council are going to be made effective and timely in order to look after all types of media as well as discussion is on regarding forming a separate commission.”
Stating that preparation was on for the implementation of Working Journalist Act in letter and spirit, the Communications Minister said that the Ministry is going to implement the services and facilities of working journalists by mid-April as mentioned in the report submitted by the Minimum Wages Fixation Committee.
Minister Rai said, “We are making attempts to forward the Mass Communication Training Foundation. There is no meaning with its name, it depends on its work.”
He urged the journalists to write in favour of making nation strong and prosperous, saying the government is moving ahead in a new way as the main agenda of the country is nation building.
Similarly, different journalists—Manmohan Swar, Umid Bagchand, Hemant Poudel and Dil Bahadur Chhantyal, shed light on the problems facing journalists in the mofussil at the programme presided over by Kailali chapter President of FNJ, Bharat Shah. RSS
