Nepal defeats Namibia by 5 wickets in ICC World Cricket League Championship
Kathmandu / April 16: Nepal won the ICC World Cricket League Championship match against Namibia by five wickets in a match held in Kritirpur on Saturday.
Namibia opted to bat first after winning the toss and made195 runs in allotted 50 overs losing nine wickets. In return Nepal chased the 196-run target set by Namibia in 47.1 overs losing five wickets with not out 50 runs by Sarad Veswakar.
Binod Bhandari made 40 runs, while skipper Paras Khadka and opener Gyanendra Malla contributed 21 runs each.
Sarel Burger top scored with 38 runs off 77 balls including four fours for Namibia. Pikky Ya France made 26 runs including two sixes and two fours off 47 balls while JJ Smit hit the same number of runs including two sixes and one four off 22 balls. Similalry, Gerhard Erasmus contributed 25 runs off 38 balls.
With the win today, Nepal earned two points in the scoreboard. Nepal had already played four matches in the Championship, without earning any point. Nepal and Namibia will play the next match on Monday at the same venue. Nepal need to win the Monday match also to qualify for the World Cup Qualifiers.
