Number of wild buffaloes on the rise in Koshi Tappu

Wild BuffaloInaruwa / May 01: The number of wild buffaloes in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve has increased by 105 in the last two years.

A census carried out two years ago had counted the wild buffaloes at 327 which grew to 432 this year.

This is the first time that such a large number of buffaloes have increased. The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservations and Koshi Tappu Reserve jointly carried out the census from April 10 to 12.

The number of female wild buffaloes is in particular on the rise, said the Department’s Director General, Fanindra Raj Kharel.

The Reserve has been counting the number of wild buffaloes in every two to four years. The increment rate is 7 to 27 per cent on an annual basis, according to the Wildlife Reserve. RSS
