Court’s decision not implemented

myagdi_districtMyagdi / May 14: The directives issued by the Appellate Court, Baglung, to Beni Municipality and District Administration Office one year ago asking stop the act of throwing waste in rive and search landfill site for its management has not been implemented yet.

Judge Ciranjivi Sharma had registered the case with the existing Arthunge VDC and district administration as defendants, saying it has made negative impact in civilization as well as in environment while throwing the garbage of Beni bazaar in Kaligandaki river.

A joint bench comprising the then Acting Chief Justice at the court, Sharada Prasad Ghimire, had issued the order to stop the act of throwing the garbage in the river immediately.

Judge Sharma expressed sadness over non-implementation of the order and added that political parties, different organisations and civil society are also responsible regarding non-implementation of the order.

Three tractors of garbage is collected everyday in Beni, where there are over 900 households. The garbage collected in Beni is directly thrown into the river.

Executive Officer at the Beni Municipality, Chhabilal Subedi, said that the Municipality has been taking initiatives to search the place for ‘landfill site’ for the management of the garbage. RSS
