‘Prison management information system’ launched

PrisonKathmandu, May 17: The Department of Prison Management has launched the ‘prison management information system’ to keep the records of inmates.

The system is aimed at clearing off any confusion regarding the information about inmate(s) and detainee (s). There are around 18,000 inmates and detainees in 74 prisons of 72 districts across the country.

The information system will have all vital information about prisoners and detainees including their photo, finger prints, jail sentence handed to them and information about their families, Department’s Director General Himnath Dawadi said.

Prisons will be provided ‘users’ name’ and ‘password’ to log into the information system and will be asked to update details of the inmates and detainees.

The system has come into practice from May 14. RSS
