NTNC and ZSL sign MoU on tiger protection

tigerKathmandu / May 18: The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) and the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding tiger conservation.

The MoU was signed during a programme on the protection of tiger habitat organised by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It relates to carrying out works for the protection of tiger at the National parks and wildlife reserve close to the Indian border.

The tiger protection programme is being pursued taking into consideration the report of the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police that shows an increase in tiger poaching in the western Tarai region in the last one year and the universal goal of increasing the global tiger population by two times by 2022.

NTNC member-secretary Govinda Gajurel and ZSL national manager Dr Hem Sagar Baral signed the MoU on carrying out activities related to tiger protection at the Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Banke National Park, Bardiya National Park and Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve and the surrounding buffer zones.

The total cost of the three-year project is Rs 95.23 million. The project will run until 2018. RSS
