DPM Thapa leaving for Turkey to attend World Humanitarian Summit
Kathmandu / May 20: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kamal Thapa, is leaving for Turkey tomorrow to participate in the World Humanitarian Summit to be held on May 23 and 24 in Istanbul, Turkey.
The first-ever event organized by the United Nations (UN) will be held under the convenor ship of UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon.
DPM Thapa will be leading a Nepali team comprising Sushil Gyawali, Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction Authority and Shanker Das Bairagi, Foreign Secretary.
Thapa will also be accompanied by the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and Ministry of Home Affairs as well as the Permanent Representatives of Nepal to the United Nations in New York and Geneva, according to the press statement issued by the MoFA on Friday.
The two-day event aims to re-inspire and reinvigorate a commitment to humanity by setting a new agenda for global humanitarian actions, focusing on humanitarian effectiveness and transformation through innovation.
Moreover, DPM Thapa is also scheduled to pay an official visit to Israel from May 24-26 during which he will be meeting the Prime Minister of the State of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu as well as other Israeli leaders, the press statement adds.
He, along with the Nepali delegation, will attend a programme in Antalya of Turkey on May 27-29 which will see the mid-term review of the Istanbul Programme of Action. DPM Thapa will return home on May 30. RSS
