101 complaints filed at TRC from Ilam; 30 in Dolpa

missing peopleIlam / May 25: A total of 101 complaints about the violations of human rights dating back to the decade long armed conflict in the country have been registered so far at the Truth Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission on Enforced Disappearance from Ilam through the local peace committee.

The registered complaints are related to forced displacement, murder (25), physical torture, bodily harm, mutilation, abduction and property damage, said Committee Office Secretary Dikendra Idingo. The number of complaints could further go up as the deadline for the registration is until June 16, he said.

The TRC is the transitional justice mechanism formed to deal with the incidents of human rights violations by both from the state and rebel side during the armed conflict (1996-2006).

Similarly, Dolpa is one of the districts most affected by the Maoist decade-long insurgency. The local peace committee in Dolpa has so far received 30 complaints about the violations of human rights dating back to the Maoist insurgency or armed conflict. The received complaints will be forwarded to the TRC, the transitional justice mechanism formed to look after the wartime incidents, the Committee Office said.

Of the complaints filed by the conflict survivors, most are about alleged injustice from the state side and are followed by the incidents of property looting, Committee Secretary Dev Singh Kathayat said. RSS
