Freed kamaiyas demand money in lump sum for house construction

Kathmandu / May 28: Freed kamaiyas, who were rehabilitated from 2058 BS to last date of Ashad of 2072 BS, have demanded the government to provide Rs 155,000 in a lump sum instead of 35 cubic feet timber for the construction of houses.

At a programme organised by the Freed Kamaiyas Integrated Struggle Committee here on Friday, they demanded end of discrimination among freed kamaiyas, arrangement of settlement in the existing place, distribution of ID card, free education and health services to children of freed kamaiyas, among others.

They complained that although the state d announced them as freed kamaiyas, they have not been rehabilitated yet.

On the occasion, Parliamentarians—Mohan Singh Rathaur, Yogendra Chaudhary and Ganga Chaudhary expressed commitment to exert pressure on the government for the implementation of the government’s decision of rehabilitating the freed kamaiyas.

Tharu leaders also warned of launching different agitation programmes if their demands are not addressed till June 2. RSS
