Ninth Republic Day; PM, President and leaders extend best wishes
Kathmandu / May 27: The ninth Republic Day is being celebrated in the country and abroad today. The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly formed after the election held on the basis of People’s Movement 2062/63 BS announced Nepal as the Federal Democratic Republic country on Jesth 15, 2065 (May 28, 2008).
Since then, Nepal started to celebrate Jesth 15 as Republic Day every day. President Bidya Devi Bhandari participates in a special programme scheduled at Tundikhel on the occasion of Republic Day. Vice-President and Prime Minister also participate in the programme to be organised by Republic Day Main Celebration Committee on Saturday morning.
Similarly, President Bhandari is organising a reception programme at Sheetal Niwas on Saturday itself on the Republic Day.
Nepali missions abroad will also hold different programmes on the Republic Day while different electronic media including Radio Nepal would run various progrmmes related to Republic Day.
There is a constitutional provision that budget for the next fiscal year should be presented on Jesth 15 every year, the Republic Day. Finance Minister is presenting the budget in the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament at 4:00 pm Saturday.
Meanwhile, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished that the Republic Day-2073 inspired all Nepali people to move ahead for building peaceful, prosperous, balanced and inclusive federal democratic republic Nepal on the basis of unity and cooperation.
In her Republic Day message of best wishes delivered today, the Head-of-the-State said political conflict and transition the country was facing for a long had come to an end and the Nepali people have become fully sovereign with the promulgation of the constitution through the historic Constituent Assembly.
Maximum utilisation of available internal means and resources, modernisation of agriculture, tourism development, environment conservation, infrastructure development for the country’s overall development, modernisation of industrial sector and creation of the employment opportunities should be the focus of the state in the aftermath of the promulgation of the constitution.
Similarly, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of the 9th Republic Day. Now country’s attention be paid to making the people residing in every place of the country to feel the social and economic transformation thereby materialising the dream for a prosperous and progressive Nepal, he underscored.
The enforcement of the constitution and building of a prosperous Nepal along with the social transformation should be the collective efforts of the Nepali citizens, the Vice President said.
Meanwhile, CPN (ML) General Secretary CP Mainali has expressed his confidence that the enforcement of the constitution would help institutionalise democratic republic. He insisted on unity among the political parties fighting for democracy to effectively enforce the constitution. RSS
