Nepali Embassy in Copenhagen marks Everest Day
Kathmandu / May 31: The Embassy of Nepal in Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday hosted a reception to mark the 9th International Sagarmatha (Everest) Day and 63 years of the first ascent of Mt Everest.
Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy, Ram Kaji Khadka, said the event was organized to reinvigorate the vigor and drive among the friends and well-wishers of Nepal in Denmark and beyond, according to a press statement.
He also shared the Nepali government’s plan to celebrate the year 2018 as ‘Visit Nepal Year’ with an aim to boost the number of foreign tourists visiting Nepal. Khadka also spoke of the devastation unleashed by the massive earthquake of April 25, 2015 in Nepal.
On the occasion, Soren Smidt, who scaled Mt Everest in 2008 and became the ninth Dane to do so, gave an elaborative presentation of his experiences in Nepal along with his fellow Danish summiteer, Henrik Kristiansen.
The Chargé d’affaires and Som Nath Sapkota, Nepal Tourism Board’s Public Relations Representative in Denmark, felicitated Soren Smidt with a peacock window and traditional Nepali scarf. RSS
