Reconstruction of quake-hit school buildings nears completion

disasterDamauli / June 4: The reconstruction works of as many as 300 school buildings damaged during last year’s Gorkha Earthquake has been expedited with millions in investment under the Physical Infrastructure Programme.

District Education Office Sub Engineer, Shambhu Poudel, said the construction of the schools was being undertaken with Rs 290 million in investment. 70 per cent of the construction of two to three room-buildings has been completed.

The second installment money has already been sent to the schools’ bank accounts for completion of the construction. The majority of the school buildings in Tanahun were damaged forcing the school administrations to run classes under temporary shelters.

Meanwhile, renovation of at least 25 community schools that incurred damages in storms has started for which Rs 1.3 million was allocated, according to Sub Engineer, Sujan Bhattarai. RSS
