Child labour submits memo to PM Oli

PM MemorandumKathmandu / June 12: “We, 18 child labours, have prepared a declaration about the problems we have faced and the activities the government should do to address these.” It was a request made before Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli by a child labour Samjhana Manandhar hailing from Ramechhap district on Sunday.

Amidst a programme organized at PM’s residence Baluwatar to mark the World Day against Child Labour on Sunday, Manandhar read out 12-point memorandum sharing the plights of the child labours. She said the house owners beat them accusing of not working properly, deprive of adequate meal and right to education, deduct wage if any pot was damaged.

In the memorandum, she said the child labours fear of possible sexual assaults from the house owners.

She then reminded PM Oli to take initiative to implement the existing laws that protect rights of the children below 14 years as right to education and proper wage

On the occasion, PM Oli said it was quite disappointing to have the children meted out disrespectful behaviour as depriving them of proper schooling and upbringing. He informed that the government has arranged the facility of education up to masters’ degree free of cost to the people from poor, Dalit and disadvantaged groups.

Similarly, Minister for Labour and Employment Dipak Bohara said the government had prepared a 10 year perspective plan against child labour.

It was informed at the programme that there were more than 1.6 children working as labour in Nepal. RSS
