Kanchanpur, June 17: The families of the persons who were enforced disappeared in course of the armed conflict are still fearful of lodging complaints for no assurance of maintaining confidentiality of personal information.

The conflict survivors said this at the far-western level discussion programme ‘Laws prevailing on transitional justice mechanism (Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission for Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons)’ held at Mahendranagar of Kanchanpur on Thursday.

The participants said that most of the conflict victim families have not yet registered their complaints after it was public that the responsible agencies were disclosing the names of the complainants.

Many victim families have not come to lodge their complaints with the rise in threats and intimidations after the disclosure of confidentialities of personal information of complainant. said Conflict Victim Society Kanchanpur Chairperson Dharma Singh Chaudhary.

He noted there is high chance for the perpetrators involved in serious human rights violations cases including murder, rape, sexual assault and enforced disappearance during the armed conflict would go unpunished.

“The conflict survivors are being deprived of lodging complaint as there is no trust towards TRC and CIEDP”, he added.

Mid-Western Region Coordinator of Advocacy Forum Basanta Gautam demanded due compensation, rehabilitation and justice to the conflict survivors.

Many of the conflict victims even do not know where to file their complaints, he said, adding, “Many people have been deprived of registering their complaints at the commissions for no outreach of information to the victims”. RSS
