New Nepal not possible unless farmers and labourer’s issues are addressed: VP Pun
Kathmandu / July 23: Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has argued that the dream to build new Nepal would not materialize unless the issues of the farmers and labourer class are addressed.
Inaugurating a two-day workshop organized by the World Federation of Trade Union here today, VP Pun said that although the employment was incorporated in the new constitution as a fundamental right, its implementation part was still facing problems.
Stating that the common problems of the labour class were job security, low wage, untimely payment and lack of health insurance, Pun ranted that the labourers were still living in exploitation, deprivation and oppression.
Similarly, CPN (Unified) Chairman Ganesh Shah spoke of the need for all the labours to strive for their rights. He was of the opinion that the labour movement had grown weak following the dissolution of the USSR.
The event will see four working paper presentation on various local and global issues such as issues facing labourer by global imperialism, impact of neo liberal economic policies on labourers and among others, according to Union’s central member Pramel Kumar Khanal.
A total of 220 participants from various trade unions in the country are taking part in the event, shared Union’s Khanal. RSS
