UPF workshop concludes stressing on promoting universal peace

Kathmandu / July 30: The three-day workshop on leadership development organised by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) wrapped up here today, laying emphasis on the need of constructive efforts for common interest and prosperity for promoting peace and humanism.

The workshop came to the conclusion that positive initiatives undertaken for common interest would contribute towards handing a prosperous and peaceful world to the coming generations.

“As we know, our world faces a wide range of problems, including territorial disputes, religious and racial conflict, environmental degradation, climate change, violent extremism, poverty, hunger, nuclear proliferation and corruption. Each of these are serious threats to human development and to the realization of peace in our world,” a proposal issued at the concluding programme of the workshop states.

Noting it was time for humanity to embrace universally shared values, going beyond differences of ideology, race, nationality, and religion, and pursuing a path of mutual cooperation and mutual prosperity, the workshop proposal further states that in this way it is possible to build a world of lasting and sustainable peace that can be bequeathed to future generations.

More than 185 Members of Parliament from 29 countries of Asia and Africa participated in the workshop.

Experts and scholars from different countries including South Korea gave talk on world peace and prosperity during the three days of the workshop.

Working papers on role of MPs for peace were presented on behalf Nepal, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, among other countries. Likewise, the delegates from Nigeria and Sierra Leone put views on parliamentary council for peace.

The workshop has also passed a resolution on establishing an international association of parliamentarians for peace. More than 500 people including representatives of the government bodies, lawmakers and related organisations attended the workshop.

Since its inception, the Universal Peace Federation has worked closely with parliamentarians from around the world to build a world of lasting peace, based on universal principles.

The founders of the Universal Peace Federation, Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, launched the global “Parliamentarians for Peace” initiative in 2001 centered on the Ambassadors for Peace. This initiative, a point of focus of the 2005 Universal Peace Federation Inaugural Tour to 120 nations, has brought together many parliamentarians from around the world through diverse programs aimed at contributing to the realization of lasting peace.

These programs have brought together parliamentarians from around the world, forming an international network of men and women who are committed to solving the critical challenges of our time and realizing a world of lasting peace. RSS
