Ganga Maya Adhikari serves 5-day ultimatum to Dahal govt, warns of hunger strike

Ganga MayaKathmandu / Aug. 05: Ganga Maya Adhikari served a fresh five-day ultimatum to the new government formed under the leadership of Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal to meet her demand that murderers of her son Krishna Prasad be booked.

Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Phujel, Gorkha was allegedly killed by the thean Maoist rebels at Bakular Chok of Ratnanagar, Chitwan, in June 2004. Her husband, Nanda Prasad Adhikari, died on September 22, 2014 while the couple had been staging fast-unto-death demanding that the murderers of their teenage son be brought to book.

Talking to media from the Bir Hospital bed on Friday, Ganga Maya said she would resort to a fast-unto-death if the government did not meet her demand in five days.

Nanda Prasad Adhikari is yet to be given funeral as the wife has been refusing to give an approval for the last rite citing her demand has not been met yet.

The Adhikari couple had first begun their hunger strike in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar in January 2013. They launched their second hunger strike the following month and ended it on the 47th day after an agreement with the government, which included action on the First Information Report against some suspects, including Parshuram Paudel. But, they were released later.

The Adhikaris had resumed their hunger strike on October 24, 2014.

Nanda Prasad had died on September 22, 2014 after 329 days of fast-unto-death at Bir Hospital. Even after losing her husband, Ganga Maya had continued her hunger strike for a total of 360 days until the government signed a five-point deal with her in October 2015.

However, she had launched the strike again as the pact was not implemented. She still remains in the Bir Hospital awaiting justice for her slain son.
