PM Dahal stresses on consensus for addressing national issues

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal assumes officeKathmandu / Aug. 09: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed on national consensus for addressing national issues.

During his meeting with the delegation of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) at his official residence at Baluwatar, today, PM Dahal emphasized on national consensus to formulate new laws, expedite the post-quake reconstruction works, implement and amend the constitution.

He expected the positive role from media even to forge a national consensus, adding that the media sector had played positive and progressive role in various political movements in the past.

PM Dahal further said that concluding the remaining tasks of the peace process and implementing the constitution were the major workload of the hour. He said that the cases related to the decade-long insurgency and the function of the various commissions related to it was still major issues.

The CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman said he was always in favor of the rights of working journalists. He added that during his meeting with media investors this morning he was apprised that media sector too was reeling under the huge impact of the earthquake and blockade.

In the meeting, FNJ President Dr Mahendra Bista reminded of the ‘influential role’ played by the media sector in institutionalizing the ‘workload of huge transformations seen in the country’. He also hoped for the government support in modifying the law necessary for implementing the media policy which had been issued recently.

He said the government should do utmost in its effort to enforce the minimum wages for journalists, and emphasized on looking from both ways at the working journalists professional and physical security as well as media industry’s development.

During the meeting, FNJ General Secretary Ujir Magar extended congratulations and wishes to the PM on behalf of the Federation and apprised him of the challenges faced by journalists. RSS
