Nepal lose to Netherlands in World Cricket League Championship
Kathmandu / Aug 13: Nepal has faced a seven-wicket defeat to the Netherlands in the World Cricket League Champions League held at the VRA cricket ground at Amsterdam in the Netherlands today.
Nepal which were sent to bat first after losing the toss could make only 94 runs in the 38.1 of the 50 allotted overs losing all wickets.
The Netherlands team easily met the target at 16.5 overs losing only three wickets.
Basanta Regmi, Sagar Pun and Karan KC of Nepal took one wicket each. Before this, almost all the Nepali batsmen performed poorly. They were helpless in the face of the strong bowling by the Netherlands players.
Nepal was under pressure today playing against the Netherlands which is on the top of the league table in its home turf. Nepal were in the sixth spot among the eight teams. Nepal were under pressure to clinch a win in their match against the Netherlands today to retain their hope of playing the World Cup.
With this defeat, Nepal are under additional pressure to win the match scheduled on Monday to retain its place in the championship.
The four top teams of the ongoing championship would have the chance to play in the ICC World Cup selection match to be held in Bangladesh in 2018, the last stage to qualify for the World Cup. If Nepal cannot get a berth in the four top positions, they would be demoted to World Cricket League Division-2. RSS
