Kavre Bus Accident- Death toll reaches 33; Five persons killed in Baitadi bus plunge
Kathmandu / Aug 15: The number of people killed in the bus accident that occurred at Birtadeurali-9 of Kavre earlier today has reached 33.
A bus (Ba 2 Kha 106) heading to Kattike Deurali of Kavre from Kathmandu had fell 500 metres down the road. Thirty-three passengers died on the spot, said the central news room of Nepal Police.
In the accident, 43 persons were injured. Police teams from different police posts including the District Police Office have involved in the rescue. Even the Chief District Officer and Superintendent of Police have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
Among the injured, 15 have been admitted to Dhulikhel Hospital, while 28 were airlifted to Kathmandu. Similarly, those brought to Kathmandu are hospitalized at the Bir Hospital Trauma Centre and TU Teaching Hospital, the police added.
However, those killed in the incident have not been identified. Rescue work is underway at the accident site.
Meanwhile, at least five persons including a postnatal woman were killed when a bus skidded off the road and fell nearly 500 meters down the road near Bindraban at Siddheshwor-3 of Baitadi today.
The death toll could rise as police were searching for the scattered bodies, said Assistant Sub Inspector, Rup Singh Thapa.
The identity of the retrieved bodies was yet to be ascertained, he said, adding that rescue operation was on. The bus (Na 5 Kha 2832) was headed to Bajhang from Dhangadhi.
