NRA chief executive stresses on joint resolve and patience for reconstruction

Nepal Reconstruction AuthorityLalitpur / Aug 19: Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Sushil Gyawali has underpinned joint resolve and patience for the reconstruction of the structures damaged by the earthquake.

Addressing a programme organised by an organisation called Hami here today, Gyawali said the NRA is providing the first tranche of the grant to the earthquake survivors for constructing their houses very soon.

“We are neither going to deviate from the right approach nor are going to delay. The donor agencies are suggesting patience so that the grant is not misused,” he said, adding that the government was equally cautious lest the owners of the houses that only need repair take the grant meant for house reconstruction.

He asserted that only the genuine earthquake survivors whose houses need to be demolished for reconstruction will get the Rs 200 thousand as the first tranche. CEO Gyawali claimed that no earthquake-affected would be deprived of the relief amount.

According to him, more than 50 old settlements have been identified in Khokana, Bungamati, Sankhu among other places that need to be reconstructed. “There is the problem of land-ownership documents in Khokana and some other places and we want the problem to be resolved soon,” he said.

Rights advocate Bandana Rana said the wole world wanted the reconstruction to be gender-friendly.

Chairman of Hami, Min Bahadur Shahi stressed that the State should invest in training capable and skilled human resources needed for the reconstruction in the coming days. RSS
