Stakeholders in Kailali call for increasing number of local body units

Map of KailaliDhangadi / Sept 1: The participants of a district-level workshop in Dhangadi held on Wednesday have suggested the authorities concerned to increase the number of local body units for Karnali district to the recently proposed one.

The total number of local body units proposed for Karnali stands at 10 with four village councils, five municipalities and a sub-metropolitan City. The participants have proposed at least 15 local units.

The participants, expressing their qualm over the proposal presented by District Development Office’s Yogendra Ojha, argued that with proposed number of local body units, the service seekers in various parts of the district will face problems in accessing public services.

Deeming the proposed number of local body units disproportionate to the population in the district they suggested the concerned authority to determine the number keeping in mind the geography and population of the district.

Stating that the proposal was not the final one, Local Development Officer (LDO) Keshav Prasad Bimali assured the stakeholders to consider their recommendations before submitting the final draft.

LDO Bimali also pledged to submit a report to the Local Bodies’ Restructuring Commission recommending a higher number of local body units for the district. RSS
