10 out of 350 species of herbal plants in Kavre for export

forestBanepa / Sept 5: Of the total 350 species of herbal plants that have been found in Chaudapate Forest in Mahabharat Range and community forests in Kavrepalanchowk district, only 10 types of herbal plants have been permitted for the export.

Although the forests here houses herbal plants of medicinal values like swertia Chirayita, Calamus, Mug-wort, Zanthoxylum Alantum and rare herbal plant like ground orchid among others in plenty, the local administration could be economically benefited by exporting as many as varieties of such herbs.

The District Forest Office’s officer Prem Khanal shared that the District had gained Rs 13,533 from the export of some 2,709 kg of a litho tropic drug named Pashanbhed in the last fiscal year.

He further shared that Rs 8.2 million has been allocated for the expansion of farming of herbal plants in the district. The District Forest Office will also identify the pocket areas for the same.

It will also build separate storage and refinement centres as well. RSS
