Nepal– Africa Film Festival – 2016 underway
Kathmandu / Sept 7: The fifth edition of ‘Nepal Africa Film Festival – 2016’ kicked off today at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) at Kamalpokhari of the capital city.
Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the festival and shared his belief that the event would work as a bridge in boosting the relations and friendship between Nepal and the African continent.
The Vice President added further that the festival would provide an opportunity for Nepal and Nepali to know the African art, culture and lifestyle. “We have the opportunity to see and understand the African lifestyle because of information and technology,” he confided.
On the occasion, Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki reminded of the sacrifice made by Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba for freedom. The government will take steps to maintain diplomatic relations with the African nations, he added.
College of Journalism and Mass Communication (CJMC) Chief Dr Manju Mishra said the festival was organized with an aim to exchange the culture between African nations replete in terms of cultural diversity and Nepal. Dr Mishra also expressed hope the government would lend support to upgrade CJMC as a university.
The festival organized by CJMC will run until September 9. A total of seven African and one Nepali movie will be screened during the festival. RSS
