President presents Nepal Bidhya Bhusan Padak; Best campuses, schools awarded on Education Day

president-awardKathmandu, Sept 8: President Bidya Devi Bhandari, on the occasion of the 37th National Education Day today, presented different education awards to various students receiving college and university degrees with outstanding results.

President Bhandari honoured the winners with Bidhya Bhusan Padak (‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’) amidst a special ceremony at the Rastrapati Bhawan. On the occasion, Nepal Bidya Bhusan Padak ‘A’, the most prestigious literary award to be presented from the government, was presented to 190 individuals holding the Ph. D degrees from various universities at home and abroad.

Likewise, Nepal Bidhya Bhusan Padak ‘ B’ was conferred on 81 individuals who passed the Masters’ degree from various universities with the outstanding results. Similarly, 15 bachelor-level graduates were honoured with the Nepal Bidhya Bhusan Padak ‘ C’.

Another 26 students were honoured with the Nepal Chhatra (Girls) Bidhya Padak.

Speaking at the event, President Bhandari called on the awarded personalities to use their skills in nation building, and insisted on collective efforts to make education accessible to all with its timely reforms.

Education Minister Dhaniram Poudel stressed that the government should lay its focus on materialising the theme of this years’ education day that was, “investment in useful education to build a prosperous nation”.

Best campuses, schools awarded on Education Day

Meanwhile, the best campuses and schools across the country have been honoured with national and regional awards on the occasion of the 37th National Education Day and the International Literacy Day on Thursday.

On the occasion, Minister for Education, Dhaniram Poudel and Minister of State for Education, Dhanmaya BK, presented the national award to Shilata Devi Community School of Pokhara under the category community schools. The award carries a national shield, flag and Rs 200,000.

Similarly, Baruneshwor Secondary School of Okhaldhunga from the eastern region, Narayani Namuna Secondary School of Chitwan from central region, Ganesh Secondary School of Baglung from the western region, Guru Secondary School of Mugu from the mid-western region and Bhagawati Secondary School of Doti from the far-western region have been honoured with the regional award under category of the community schools. The award carries cash prize of Rs 100,000, shied and flag.

Likewise, Khumjung Secondary School of Solukhumbu has been awarded with Rs 100,000 as the government school from remote areas.

GEMS School of Lalitpur has bagged shield, flag and Rs 200,000 cash prize under the category of private schools. Kalyan Bidhya Mandir Biratnagar from eastern region, Little Angels Secondary School of Laltipur from the central region, Motherland Secondary School of Kaski from western region, Tulasi Secondary School of Dang from mid-western region and International Public School of Kanchanpur from mid-western region have bagged shield, flag and Rs 100000 cash prize as the private schools in the region.

Likewise, the community and private colleges that were awarded with Rs 200,000 and letters of certificate each include the constituent campus- Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus of Ilam, TU affiliated community Janapriya Multiple Campus, Kaski and TU affiliated private College of Bio Medical Engineering, Kathmandu.

During the award handover programme, Minister for Education Dhaniram Poudel stressed the need for bringing new education programmes based on skills, science and spirit of nationality.

Stating that the Education Act was amended (eighth amendment) recently and expressing belief that the amendment would help resolve problems in education, he informed that the Ministry was working to formulate Education Regulations.

As part of the campaign to eliminate illiteracy from the country by 2017, he said, 29 out of 75 districts have already been declared literate. Remaining districts would be declared literate within the running fiscal year.

Similarly, Minister of State for Education, Dhana Maya BK acknowledged the importance of education in making the country prosperous. RSS
