SC’s show cause order on changing spelling of Nepali language

Supreme CourtKathmandu / Sept 11: The Supreme Court issued a show cause order in the name of government on the minister’s decision to change the spelling of Nepali language and the subsequent change in school curriculum.

A single bench of Justice Jagdish Sharma Poudel on Sunday sought the reason in written within 15 days from the government to this regard, said Joint Spokesperson, Bishworaj Poudel.

The SC has summoned both sides on September 18 to hold a thorough discussion on the decision on the change of Nepali spelling.

On September 9, advocate Bhadra Prasad Nepal (Swagat Nepal) and journalist Tapendra Karki had filed a writ petition seeking a certiorari making defendants to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister, Education Ministry, Curriculum Development Centre and others against the decision to change spelling of the Nepali language.
