Bombs in schools condemned

schoolKathmandu / Sept 20: Education Ministry and different organisations related to education sector have condemned the bomb explosion at different schools on Tuesday, saying such activity has terrorized students and guardians.

A press release issued on Tuesday by Ministry Spokesperson, Dr Hari Lamsal, stated that such activity has foiled peace in education sector.

An organisation, Young Communist Force, had planted pressure cooker bomb and suspicious objects at more than half dozen of schools in Kathmandu on Tuesday morning. Teaching learning activities were affected at different schools due to the incident.

The Ministry called upon all not to carry out such illegal activities and to guarantee rights of smooth teaching learning activities.

School as zone of peace be implemented: UNICEF

Condemning the incident, UNICEF said, “School should be the place where children should feel safe and learn happily.”

Nepal representative of UNICEF, Tomoo Hozumi, said, “All political parties in the country have signed the commitment of keeping school as zone of peace at any situation but schools and students have been victim of violence time and again.”

Similarly, issuing a press release, Chairman of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, Keshav Niraula, and General Secretary, Tilak Kunwar, Kumar Bhattarai of National Campaign for Education- Nepal, Chairman of the Students as Zones of Peace and National Campaign for Child Protection, Krishna Subedi, among others also condemned the incident.

Likewise, the National Human Rights Commission has said that its serious attention has been drawn towards the incident of bomb explosions at different schools in Kathmandu valley including Jorpati-based Manakamana Higher Secondary School and Akashdeep School.

Issuing a press release, NHRC Spokesperson Mohana Ansari drew the attention of the government to carry out a probe into the incident and take action against the guilty.

The press release states that such activity has violated the rights of children of acquiring education in peaceful environment.

Similarly, the NHRC also urged all political parties to be responsible in implementing their commitment of making school as zone of peace. RSS
