Journalists’ Code of Conduct-2073 BS issued
Kathmandu / Sept 21: A new journalists’ code of conduct has been prepared and promulgated.
‘Journalists’ Code of Conduct- 2073 BS’ formulated in collaboration of Nepal Press Council and Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) was promulgated amidst a programme held today at the President’s Office Shital Niwas on the occasion of the Council’s 47th anniversary.
Council Chair Borna Bahadur Karki and FNJ President Dr Mahendra Bista jointly unveiled the new journalists’ code of conduct on the occasion. Following the promulgation, the original copy of journalists’ code of conduct was submitted to President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
According to Council Chair Karki, the new journalists’ code of conduct aimed to make Nepali media and journalists more responsible towards their profession which has also recognised online journalism. The previous journalists’ code of conduct was more focused on print media, but the new had widely recognised radio, television and online media as well, he added. It has also adopted the international media practices, he said.
With the promulgation of new journalists’ code of conduct, the Journalist Code of Conduct- 2060 BS (Amended and Modified, 2064 BS) has been scrapped.
The new journalists’ code of conduct has defined the ethics of journalism in 15 points and banned the online media from removing the published materials, Council’s Deputy Administrative Officer Deepak Khanal said. Likewise, every media is allowed to prepare their separate code of conduct that will be monitored by the Council. RSS
