Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ begins commercial power production

electrictyLamjung / Sept 26: The Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ hydropower project constructed at Bhulbhule in Lamjung district has begun commercial power production from Monday.

Separate programmes were organised in Kathmandu and Lamjung for the inauguration of the project. Parliamentarian Bhishma Adhikari and Assistant Chief District Officer jointly inaugurated the project switching on for the power production after getting information of the announcement of official inauguration by Energy Minister Janardan Sharma in a programme organised in Kathmandu.

Two turbines each with capacity of 25 MW have been installed. Only a turbine has now started generating power and each turbine can produce 25 MW electricity.

Although the test transmission of another turbine was successful, it will come into operation only after three months as per the agreement with Nepal Electricity Authority.

The power production has been linked to the national transmission grid. The project will generate 260.6 million unit during rainy season while 57 unit during dry season, it is learnt. RSS
