Madan, Jagadamba prizes for 2072 BS presented to Joshi, Chhetri

madan-puruskarLalitpur / Oct 2: The Madan Puraskar Guthi has presented the Madan Puraskar (prize), one of the most prestigious Nepali literature awards in the country, and the Jagadamba Shree Puraskar for the year 2072 BS amidst a special ceremony here Sunday.

The Madan Puraskar was presented to moffusil-based writer Ramlal Joshi for his compilation of fictions titled ‘Aina’ (Mirror). Likewise, Lil Bahadur Chhetri, the writer of the popular Nepali novel Basain was honoured with the Jagadamba Shree Puraskar.

Joshi, a writer from far-western Nepal, tries to raise general but ‘sensitive’ issues in his creation. He feels that the award was not for his individual efforts for the entire fast-west Nepal.

Jagadamaba Shree winner Chhetri, who is an Indian national of Nepali origin and resides in Assam, India, reacted to the Guthi decision’s to honour him by stating that such recognition was a contribution to those writers in the Nepali literature who have attempted to unite the entire Nepali people should be different languages and cultures.

He laid emphasis on in-depth research on Nepali literary works written at different times and contexts. Both awards carry a purse of Rs 200,000 each. RSS
