Four must-follow rules for young writers

writing-odysseyBibidh Subedi / Kathmandu : A lot of people assume that a person who has command over language, grammar and are creative, writing comes fast and easy. However, it’s not always the case. “Sometimes it (writing) comes easily and perfectly; sometimes it’s like drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges,” said Ernest Hemingway.

Even for a professional, writing can be exhausting. It is natural for young writers to run out of ideas and ultimately lose their passion for writing.

With the ubiquity in online publishing platforms, emerging writers have the opportunity to publish relatively easily and read by a wide audience. I have come up with a few tips to polish your writing in general.

Write something everyday

Not all of Van Gogh’s paintings were wonders. All your writings won’t be a masterpiece as well. But the secret formula lies in writing something every day. There are no perfect conditions to write. However, there could be a particular time of the day around which your creativity kicks in and you feel most comfortable. Identify that time of the day and get going.

Identifying the symbols

It’s also not uncommon to be stuck. You are still not convinced that whatever you are thinking isn’t the best of what you can think of. Take a breather and do some traveling. You might run out of ideas but, the nature never does. There are plenty of symbols all around. As a writer, you need to find them, understand and recreate them in your own ways. It might be a little time-consuming but this is a rather worthy tip – especially for the poets and story writers.

Have critics

Having critics is completely optional but very helpful. A writer can take words, sentences, meanings or feelings for granted and it’s when a critic comes handy. Choose a suitable critic who understands context. It is important for a writer to accept the received reviews with grace.

Write for yourself

A common mistake is to write for some outcome at the end. The moment you start wondering ‘what will others think?’ you begin to limit your thoughts. Writing for oneself contributes to an honest piece, and gives a touch of originality. Don’t get constricted by your own thoughts, try giving yourself enough space to think and write so that your words can breathe and come alive.

Good luck with your writing! Source: http://www.myrepublica.com/news/8547
