Prez Bhandari inaugurates 7th National Sports Championship

national-gamesBiratnagar / Dec 23: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has inaugurated the Seventh National Sports Championship in a grand ceremony at Biratnagar-based Martyr Stadium on Friday.

On the occasion, President Bhandari asked athletes to be disciplined and play significant role to increase nation’s pride through the sports.

She said that the championship would play significant role for the selection of players in different championship including Asian Games going to be held in Jakarta in 2018, South Asian Games to be held in Nepal in 2019 and Olympic in Tokyo of Japan in 2020.

Suggesting to include sports in the curriculum from school to university level, President Bhandari said, “An arrangement of special incentive to woman athletes as well as athletes from backward and marginalized communities and employment to best players should be made.”

Similarly, Minister for Youth and Sports, Daljit Shreepaili, expressed the belief that the championship would help in social, economic and tourism development of eastern region.

Procession of different indigenous nationalities including Newar, Gangai, Rajbanshi and Thami were presented on the occasion. RSS
