Pure drinking water to be supplied in Tarai soon

Drinking waterKathmandu / Dec 30: The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has forwarded the ‘Tarai Madhes Drinking Water Improvement Programme’ aimed at supplying pure drinking water in districts in the Tarai.

The programme would be effective in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur.

The joint secretary at the Ministry Ram Chandra Devkota shared that the programme was prepared as most of the locals in the region were compelled to consume arsenic-contaminated water.

Under the programme, drinking water would be supplied after installing deep boring system.

State Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation Deepak Khadka said that the drinking water problem would be resolved within two years across the country.

He added that the lift system would be managed in the hilly belt and deep boring in Tarai belt to resolve the drinking water problem.

It may be noted that the Ministry has allocated over Rs 300 million for deep boring programme in Tarai. RSS
