14th periodic plan approved; plan estimates 7 % economic growth

government logoKathmandu / Jan 8: A full meeting of the National Planning Commission (NPC) on Sunday approved the 14th periodic plan.

The meeting presided over by NPC Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal approved the three-year plan for fiscal year 2016/17- 2018/19. The periodic plan has estimated seven per cent economic growth.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal said that the 14th plan has been brought ahead of the time and it would play crucial role to achieve the goals.

Prime Minister Dahal said, “We are still in transition. Although political transition has been over to some extent after the promulgation of constitution, transition of economic plan and structure would continue until the federalism will be fully implemented.”

He further said that the government would now focus its attention in implementation of federalism, provincial structure and formulation of plan. .

Similarly, Chief Secretary Dr Somlal Subedi stressed that the upcoming plan should give priority in implementation of federalism, management of employees and provincial structure and infrastructure development.

Concept paper of the programme was approved by the National Development Committee few months ago.

Likewise, NPC Member Dr Swornim Wagle said that priority has been given to production-oriented sector, infrastructure, social and social security sectors, environment protection, agriculture, industrial development, tourism sectors and gender equality.
