Sixteen metric tonnes of solid waste extracted from major rivers in Valley
Kathmandu / Feb 4: A total of 16 metric tonnes of solid waste was extracted in course of the weekly cleaning of the major rivers in Kathmandu valley on Saturday.
As part of the 195th week of Bagmati cleaning campaign, seven metric tonnes of solid waste was scooped out from the slum area at Jagriti Tol in Banshower Campus in Kathmandu, according to the High-powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee.
Members of the Committee, Kathmandu Metropolis officials, Nepal army, Nepal police and armed police personnel, members of publics and school students in total 500 numbers joined today’s cleanliness campaign led by former Nepali Ambassador to China Dr Mahesh Kumar Maskey.
Similarly, four metric tons of solid waste was managed from the Rudramati river as part of the 154th week of cleaning up the river from the Gopi Krishna Bridge to Bhatkeko Pul area in the Capital. The river bank was also cleaned up, according to Chairperson of the Rudramati Concern Society Vice-Chair Rohit Giri.
In attendance in today’s clean-up drive were the staffers of the Kathmandu Metropolis Office Ward no 4, 5, 7, 9 and 33 besides locals and civil societies’ representatives.
Likewise, today the 127th week of the cleaning of the Bishnumati river took place in Mahadev River in Tarkeshower Municpality, where five metric tons of solid waste was collected, according to campaigner Bijendra Lama. RSS
