SC directs govt. to furnish elections action plan

Supreme CourtKathmandu / March 2: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday directed the government to provide progress made so far, and action plan of three-tier elections within 10 days.

A division bench of Justices Hari Krishna Karki and Anil Kumar Sinha directed the Prime Minister’s Office, Election Commission (EC), Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and others to furnish written response within 10 days about the progress on all three levels of elections to be conducted by January 21, 2018.

“What are the laws made for holding three levels of elections? What’s going on about the formation of constituency determination commission? How is the action plan made for ensuring three levels of elections in accordance with the constitution,” reads the SC directive.

Advocates Dr Chandra Kant Gyawali, Bimal Gyawali, Liladhar Upadhyay and Shashi Karki had lodged a writ petition, demanding to declare elections dates for provincial parliament and federal parliament. RSS
