Parliamentary Committee urges for uniformity in regulations

ParliamentKathmandu / March 2: The Development Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has directed the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to bring uniformity in the regulations on infrastructure development. The Committee said the provisions in the Public Procurement Regulation and the Local Body Economic Regulation were contradictory thereby hindering the activities in the local level.

Following the Committee meeting on Thursday, Committee Chairman Rabindra Adhikari stated, “There were contradictory provisions in the two Regulations which has badly hindered the development and constructions. So, the Ministry must bring change to harmonize the regulations.”

Similarly, the Ministry and the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) were directed to bring into book the employees avoiding duties. The Ministries running development projects are also asked to present progress detail before the Committee.

In the meeting, Minister for Local Development Hitraj Pandey expressed commitment that he would take initiative to change the provision that has obstructed development activities.

Similarly, Acting CIAA Chief Deep Basnet said the budget was scattered on development project and the fund much misused. “Lack of proper coordination among government officers/officials has affected development activities,” he argued. RSS
