EC urges observers to make election fair, credible

Election CommissionKathmandu / March 13: The Election Commission has urged the representatives from various organizations to be mobilized as election observers to play a role to make the local election free, fair and credible.

During an interaction organized with the agencies studying the local level election observation directive 2074, Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said the observers of the local election could help make the election free and fair being based on the past experience as well.

According to him, representatives were being elected from 6,680 wards of the total 744 local units. “As every ward is obliged to elect woman, dalit, and marginalized person, the observation team should also be inclusive,” he emphasized.

On the occasion, Undersecretary Mukunda Sharma presented a working paper on ‘provisions on local level election observation directive and code of conduct’.

According to him, although EC had provisioned the age of observers to be over 21-year-old and at least Plus Two education, the organizations sending observers demanded revision on it. RSS
