Kathmandu / March 31: Concerned authorities have stressed the need for ensuring at least 40 percent seats to women in local bodies through the election stated for May 14.

They have put this remark at an interaction organised here on Friday by Media Advocacy Group (MAG) with the theme of ‘women’s participation at local level’.

On the occasion, various speakers including CPN (Maoist Centre) Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal, CPN-UML central member Sabitri Bhusal and Nepali Congress leader Pratima Gautam called for ensuring maximum representation of women in the civic polls.

Likewise, Vice Chair of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Anita Bindu viewed that women’s candidacy in the polls is a must to ensure good governance, corruption control and transparency.

Also, MAG Chairperson Babita Basnet urged all to help women candidates from across the country win the polls while underscoring the need for imparting voter education. RSS
