EC urges govt not to seek option to June 14 election

Election CommissionKathmandu / May 24:The Election Commission has urged the government not to seek the alternative to the June 14 election but to cooperate with the EC to hold the second round of local election successfully on the slated day. The election programs have already been published in the gazette, it reminded.

Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav gave such suggestions to PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba at PM’s residence Baluwatar on Wednesday.

On the occasion, PM Dahal said efforts were underway to seek political consensus for the election. He asked the EC officials to give measures and options to hold the second round of local election successfully.

All election related materials have reached the concerned stations of Province No 1, 2, 5 and 7 for the second round of the local election. Every preparation necessary for the second round is complete, CEC Yadav reiterated. From 20 May, the offices of the chief returning officers have come into operation.

Similarly, EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma said the EC was all prepared to hold the second phase of local election on the slated date of June 14.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi , leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Ram Bahadur Thapa and Election Commissioners Ila Sharma, Narendra Dahal, Ishwori Prasad Poudyal, Sudhir Kumar Saha and EC Secretary Gopinath Mainali. RSS
