‘Provincial and federal polls on same day’

ElectionKathmandu / July 29: Minister for Irrigation, Sanjaya Kumar Gautam, has stated that the government was preparing to hold provincial and federal election on the same day by January 21, 2018.

At an interaction programme held in the Capital on Saturday, Minister Gautam clarified that the limited time left for holding the two-tires of elections has prompted the government to conduct them on the same day.

Arguing that both the time and money would be saved by holding both elections on the same day, Gautam underscored government’s coordination with the major opposition for the same.

“The Prime Minister has already held discussion with the Election Commission in connection to the same. The Commission is also positive about it. The election date would be declared soon after holding consultative meetings with other political parties,” he said.

Underscoring the need to forward the constitution amendment process despite the fact that the incumbent government lacks two third majority for the same, Gautam shared that the government was effortful to bring the Rastriya Janata Party on board the third phase of local level elections in Province 2 on September 18.

On a different note, the newly appointed Minister viewed that the farm produce could be increased by modernising and further strengthening the irrigation system in the agricultural country like ours.

According to him, a new master plan relating to irrigation would be introduced replacing the older one. RSS
