73% voter turnout in Province 2: EC; PM thanks all for peaceful polls in Province No. 2
Kathmandu / Sept. 18: The Election Commission (EC) has informed that the local level election in Province 2 has completed in a peaceful manner.
Organizing a press meet on Monday evening, the EC has informed that the voter turnout of the election in eight districts of Province 2 was 73%.
Speaking at the program, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav informed that except some minor incidents, overall, the election was conducted in a peaceful manner and concluded that the participation of voters was very enthusiastic.
“Despite recent flood and natural calamities in the region, the overwhelming participation of the local during the poll has strengthened the democratic value in the country and has assured the right of the people”, said CEC Yadav.
CEC Yadav expressed satisfaction over the successful conduction of the election in the province with political consent and understanding, though the poll date was rescheduled many times and added that this election has conveyed a message of prosperous future of country.
Monday’s elections will elect 6,627 local representatives for which a total of 37,236 contestants are vying for the posts of chiefs and members of the local units and ward committees. EC officials said there are a total of 2,664,950 registered voters in Province 2. Of the total seats allocated for local units, eight candidates have already been elected unanimously.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended thanks to all for peaceful elections in the Province-2 held on Monday.
Issuing a press statement today, Deuba has extended thanks to all for their support to make the polls–the greatest celebrations of democracy–peaceful, and encouraging.
With the third phase of polls, the local level of elections as envisioned by the Constitution of Nepal has been conduced across the country. The first and second phases of polls were held on May 14 and June 28.
The PM has also stated that the elections in all eight districts of Province-2 were held in an enthusiastic manner.
“For the first time, the Constitution has given the sovereign power to the citizens. Basically, citizens use their sovereign rights through the elections in a democracy,” he said.
Expressing the government’s commitment to hold the parliamentary and provincial elections on November 26 and December 7 in a free, fair and fearless manner, the PM has expressed the confidence that the country would enter in to the new era of political stability and economic prosperity after the completion of all three levels of polls.
