Dr KC begins 12th fast-unto-death from today
Kathmandu / Sept. 25: Senior orthopaedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital Dr Govinda KC has begun his 12th fast-unto-death, putting forth a five-point demand.
Speaking to media persons organising a press conference in the premises of TUTH boundary, Dr KC said that this protest was against the government preparations to pass the National Medical Education Bill- 2074 BS from the Legislature-Parliament without any amendments.
His demands include endorsement of the Bill by incorporating the recommendations of the Mathema Committee Report and his personal suggestions as well.
The demand further included immediate resumption of class at Karnali Institute of Health Sciences, commencement of works to establish medical colleges in different parts of the country including Doti, Dadaeldhura,Dhanusha, Mahottari and Panchthar among others and address of the demands raised by Nepal Medical Association.
The Kathmandu University should charge the MBBS fees as fixed by the government, states a charter of demands put forth by Dr KC who expressed his concern over the government’s apathy to address his demands.
Likewise, the senior orthopaedic surgeon also demanded investigations into the alleged embezzlement by recently sacked Executive Chief of Nepal Oil Corporation and recovery of the amount if he proved guilty. He also demanded for action against officials involved in the embezzlement case.
