UML directs its NA poll voters not to leave country and provinces

UML party officeKathmandu / Jan 30: The CPN-UML has directed its National Assembly election voters not to leave the country and provinces until the election is held. A standing committee meeting of the party held under the chairmanship of party Chair, KP Sharma Oli, at the party headquarters at Dhumbarahi on Tuesday issued such directives.

The meeting also decided to organize orientation to its NA voters before February 5 in view of upcoming NA election. The NA election has been slated February 7 where provincial assembly (PA) members and chiefs and deputy chiefs of local levels are its voters.

The meeting has decided to go with collective efforts that include election publicity campaign, voter education and other managerial works to garner support in favour of left candidates nominated for the NA poll.

Meanwhile, the meeting has said its serious attention has been drawn towards the activities of ‘caretaker’ government which as the meeting claimed were against the constitution, laws, democratic norms and values.

The incumbent government has been accused of misappropriating the State coffer, making arbitrary decisions regarding new appointments on public posts and transfer and promotion of employees and taking decisions against the interests of nation and people by ignoring people’s mandate given through the recent elections to the House of Representatives and PA.

Besides, the meeting agreed to organise PA parliamentary meet before the first meeting of Provinces and discuss the issues about roles that party and party members should perform in the PA. The meeting will be held under the chair of PA parliamentary leader and in the case of such provinces where a parliamentary party leader is yet to be elected, the senior most member will chair the meeting. The meeting will pick up parliamentary party leader in the provinces where the appointment is still awaited following the conclusion of NA election.

It has also decided against any activity that would affect the elections to Speaker and PP leader to take place.

The would-be-held PA parliamentary meeting is tasked with preparing policies and process to choose a PP leader.

A winner will be announced through secret voting if more than one candidacy is filed for the polls. RSS
