Dr KC files RTI on CJ’s citizenship; Advocate claims death-threat issued by CJ

Gopal ParajuliKathmandu / Jan 31: Senior Advocate Dr Surendra Bhandari, in a report lodged at the Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO), has claimed that he has received death threats from Supreme Court Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli. The senior advocate had defended Dr Govinda KC in the recent contempt of court case.

Bhandari has further asked for security stating that the Chief Justice (CJ) has issued repeated death threats to him.

According to Bhandari’s close associate Advocate Om Prakash Aryal, Bhandari received the first threat on January 10 after the case hearing, and then again on January 26, when Bhandari’s article concerning the case was published on a national daily.

Aryal, who had also defended KC, stated that Dr Govinda KC’s aides and those involved in the case have been receiving indirect threats. But this is the first instance of a direct threat.

Bhandari has attached the cell phone number from which he received the threat from the CJ in the report.
The report was filed soon after Dr Govinda KC and a legal team registered a Right to Information (RTI) at DAO demanding information on the much debated citizenship of Chief Justice Parajuli.

Aryal informed that KC sought information on the citizenship since the pertaining details would be required for a case against the medical activist in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court secretariat has currently been denying a statement on this issue.
