‘Nepali children’s theatre still in its infancy’
Feb 28, 2018-An Asia wide conference concerning children’s theatre, organised by International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (Assitej International), took place, this week in Tokyo. The conference commenced with discussions regarding “the importance of theatre for young people,” which saw representatives from 12 countries take part. Diparsan Jung Rana, chairperson for Assitej Nepal, had spoken in the conference about the state of Nepali children’s theatre which he described as “still in its infancy,” stressing that working in theatre meant encountering obstructions and opportunities in equal parts. Rana also beseeched peers from international theatre organisations to continue to collaborate and show their support for Nepali children’s theatre.
The conference saw lengthy discussions on the problems besetting children’s theatre in Asia. Attending representatives took time to condemn the ongoing violence in Syria with its increasing numbers of child casualties.
Assitej International’s annual global event, ‘Artistic Gathering’, will take place in China this August.Source: The Kathmandu Post
